This is number 2 of 25 posts in this series.  Feel free to check out the rest of them by clicking here.  The following advice will only work if you put the time and effort into making them work.

If this are things that you are already doing then just consider this as a refresher course as being a Dad.  But please still read the article because you might learn something new or even can add more in the comment section.

Moms can do these as well as Dads so don’t be afraid to try Moms.

Advice “Don’t be afraid to show your emotions to your family”

Most dads out there think they should not show emotions in front of their families because it is a sign of weakness.  This is not true.  It shows your family that you have a heart and that you are human like everyone else.  Compassion is something I see a lot of kids missing in their lives.

Advice “Work on improving your relationship with your wife or partner”

This is a very important piece of advice.  This is showing your kids how to treat their partner or future partner in life.  If you are treating your wife or partner bad then there is a chance that your son will treat their wife the same way or your daughter will allow a guy to treat her that way.  Kids learn by the actions we take as dads in their lives.  SO beware you have a mini me around you.

Advice “Take time out from work for family time”

Show your kids that family is more important than work or your hobbies that you do.  This way it makes them feel that they are important in your life as a dad.  Family should always be at the top of your list as well as your wife or partner and God if you believe.  You can always work but family time is lost if you miss it.

Advice “Laugh at yourself. All the time”

You need to show your kids and family that if you make mistakes it is OK to laugh at yourself.  This also can show your kids that you can be as goofy as possible at times and it is alright to laugh.  This shows them that you don’t have to take everything serious and you need to laugh and smile at life.  It is a way to teach your kids to not be a bitter person in life.

I hope this series will be a big hit for everyone.  Like always if you see something that I posted wrong or if I leave something out then please feel free to leave a comment or email me the information.  I want this to be something new or veteran dads can use as well as all of the Moms out there.

Psalm 103:13 is another reading in the bible that deals with Fatherhood.

To me psalm 103:13 talks about how we as fathers and dads should have compassion with our children even if they do something bad..

We need to treat our kids in the way we want everyone else to treat them as well as how we want God to treat us.  Since we are all children of God.

This also tells fathers to raise their children up with good values, kindness, and love like it is taught in the bible.

These truly talk to us as fathers and dads to how to raise our children in general.

Here are two different bible translations of Psalm 103:13

Psalm 103:13

New International Version (NIV)

13 As a father has compassion on his children,
    so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;

Psalm 103:13

New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

13 As a father has compassion for his children,
so the Lord has compassion for those who fear him.

First of all I apologize for releasing this on Tuesday instead of Monday.  I had been sick with a cold the last few days. So I hope you enjoy the series.

In this series I will be talking about four things you can do starting this week to make yourself a better dad to your children as well as being a better spouse to your partner.  Each week for the next 25 weeks I will add four new things to this list that you can use with the previous ones.

If this are things that you are already doing then just consider this as a refresher course as being a Dad.  But please still read the article because you might learn something new or even can add more in the comment section.

Moms can do these as well as Dads so don’t be afraid to try Moms.

Advice “Be present with your children or child”

I start this week with one of the best pieces of advice I was given when I was a new Dad.  You need to be present to your children.  You need to be in their lives now.  This will make them feel safe as well as stable knowing they have a father in their life.  You don’t want to miss an important milestones like watching them walk for the first time or watching their first dance residual.  Kids grow up so fast anyway so don’t miss anything with your children.

Advice “Huge amounts of praise on your kids”

Always praise your kids for the good things they do even if they mess something up.  You want to have a kind heart when they do something wrong because they learn how to discipline by your example.  The more praise you do the better your relationship with your kids will be.  They will be comfortable talking to you about other stuff when they get older.

Advice “Focus on the positive when speaking to your children”

Like before in the previous advice is that you need to talk with a kind heart towards your children.  This will build your relationship with your kids as well as making them safe around you.  It is a good thing for them to come to you about doing something wrong knowing you won’t yell at them in a negative way.

Advice “Say I love you. A lot”

This is another important thing to do with your children.  You need to tell them these three magical words a lot to them.  It will make them feel good as well as knowing they have a loving father.  This is important to dads of daughters since the more they feel loved then the less chance of marrying a guy that will hurt them later in life.  For dads of sons, you will teach them to be a loving person towards others.

I hope this series will be a big hit for everyone.  Like always if you see something that I posted wrong or if I leave something out then please feel free to leave a comment or email me the information.  I want this to be something new or veteran dads can use as well as all of the Moms out there.
