This is number 5 of 25 posts in this series.  Feel free to check out the rest of them by clicking here.  The following advice will only work if you put the time and effort into making them work.  I hope you are getting positive results by doing what I have listed already.

If this are things that you are already doing then just consider this as a refresher course as being a Dad.  But please still read the article because you might learn something new or even can add more in the comment section if you have a better way to explain it.

Moms can do these as well as Dads so don’t be afraid to try Moms.

Advice “Get moving. Have a fitness plan in place and get your kids to join in”

One of the best things to do as a father is stay in shape.  By staying in shape and staying healthy, you are going to be around your kids longer then if you were not in shape.  That will give you more time with your kids.  This will also help you lower your stress in your life as well.

This will allow you to help get and keep your kids in shape and healthy.  This will also keep your kids active so that they just don’t sit in front of a television and watch shows or movies or even play video games.  This stuff in small portions is ok but if they do this all of the time then they will suffer in school as well as social and intelligence since most of the stuff kids watch is not educational or worth watching.

Advice “Take more walks, and leave the car at home”

This goes with the advice from above.  Exercise is not always something you can do so just even walking will help.  If you leave your car home and walk to the places that are near you then to are accomplishing the goal.  You can use this piece of advice with another one from earlier and spend some one-on-one time with your child.  Just a thought.

Advice “Fall in love with your wife. Again”

This is a very good one if you are married.  This will show your kids that you are still in love with their mother and it also teaches them how to treat a woman they love in their life.  If they are young kids then it’s their mother.  This shows them to respect others as well.  Sometimes this can be a hard task but the reward is watching your kids treat their wives or partners the same way you treat your wife or partner.

Advice “Admit you’re wrong when you are”

This can be a hard thing to do since we tend to get our pride involved.  By admitting to your kids or in front of your kids that you are wrong is not going to make you weak.  It reminds them that you are human and don’t always know the answers.  It also teach your kids that they don’t have to be a know-it-all type of person.  But if you do know all of the answers then you are a very smart person.  There is a huge difference between a know-it-all and a smart person.

I hope this series will be a big hit for everyone.  Like always if you see something that I posted wrong or if I leave something out then please feel free to leave a comment or email me the information.  I want this to be something new or veteran dads can use as well as all of the Moms out there.

This is number 4 of 25 posts in this series.

Advice “Leave your watch and daytimer on your desk sometimes”

This is another way of telling you to spend time with your family and leave work at work and put your schedule away for a day and enjoy your time with your kids.  You don’t get that much time to spend with them before they are off on their own.  Don’t be one of those parents that wished they spent more time with their kids when they were younger.

Advice “Make a meal for your family ”

This is another way to appreciate your family and spend time with your kids.  Make a meal for your family tells them that your family comes first over everything else that is in your life.  It shows that you love your family and want to do things for them.  This is also a good way to get your kids to help you as well as teach them how to cook.  This will be an important part of their lives and a way you teach them that eating out is not always the first option  This is a way you can teach them how to save money since cooking at home is cheaper than fast food or a restaurant.  Unless you own the place.

Advice “Do something wacky and unpredictable in front of your kids”

This shows your kids that you are fun to be around as well as there is no set time or schedule for them or you to have fun.  This also teaches them that you can laugh at yourself and their selves by doing goofy things.  This will help build self-esteem with your kids.

Advice “Spend some time one-on-one with your child”

This is another important thing to do if you are a father of multiple children.  This will not have any bearing on parents of a single child since you do this every day.  It is important to spend one-on-one time with your kids.  It makes them feel special and allows them to relax around you since they are not trying to battle for your attention.  Every one of my kids enjoy their one-on-one time with me and my wife.  They think it is the best time with us and you get to know them individually since every child is unique.  This would be the time they can share their problems with you that they don’t want everyone in the family to know.  So this is an important way to stay in touch with your teenager when they go through middle and high school years.

I hope this series will be a big hit for everyone.  Like always if you see something that I posted wrong or if I leave something out then please feel free to leave a comment or email me the information.  I want this to be something new or veteran dads can use as well as all of the Moms out there.

Advice “Listen to your kids with all of your attention”

Every parent should listen to their children all of the time.  If you show your kids that they have your attention then you are showing them respect.  Then later they will show their friends and other strangers their respect.  Respect is missing in lot of the kids these days.  This is one of the most important traits you can teach your kids.

Advice “Learn new things by teaching your children about them”

This is the best way to learn is by learning with your children.  This can be fun and entertainment.  This is a fun way for your kids to learn stuff is from watching you.  This can be a win – win situation for both of you.  You win by spending time with your kids.

Advice “Start a personal journal”

You probably thinking why is this listed here.  This can be an important piece of advice I can offer you.  There is a lot of things you want to tell your kids when they get older but by the time they are older, you forget what you were going to tell them.  This is where you can write them down to share with them later.  It doesn’t have to be an online journal either.  You can buy an old fashion one you can write in.

Advice “Hold your kids accountable for their actions and words, but don’t use punishment to teach”

This will teach your kids responsibility and respect to others.  This is a good tool to teach your pre-teen or teenager before they learn it the hard way in life.  This will also teach them that their actions and words mean something.  Don’t punish them for not doing or keeping their word because you will discourage them to take any action due to thinking they will be punished for it if they are wrong.

I hope this series will be a big hit for everyone.  Like always if you see something that I posted wrong or if I leave something out then please feel free to leave a comment or email me the information.  I want this to be something new or veteran dads can use as well as all of the Moms out there.

Moms can do these as well as Dads so don’t be afraid to try Moms.

Advice “Don’t be afraid to show your emotions to your family”

Most dads out there think they should not show emotions in front of their families because it is a sign of weakness.  This is not true.  It shows your family that you have a heart and that you are human like everyone else.  Compassion is something I see a lot of kids missing in their lives.

Advice “Work on improving your relationship with your wife or partner”

This is a very important piece of advice.  This is showing your kids how to treat their partner or future partner in life.  If you are treating your wife or partner bad then there is a chance that your son will treat their wife the same way or your daughter will allow a guy to treat her that way.  Kids learn by the actions we take as dads in their lives.  SO beware you have a mini me around you.

Advice “Take time out from work for family time”

Show your kids that family is more important than work or your hobbies that you do.  This way it makes them feel that they are important in your life as a dad.  Family should always be at the top of your list as well as your wife or partner and God if you believe.  You can always work but family time is lost if you miss it.

Advice “Laugh at yourself. All the time”

You need to show your kids and family that if you make mistakes it is OK to laugh at yourself.  This also can show your kids that you can be as goofy as possible at times and it is alright to laugh.  This shows them that you don’t have to take everything serious and you need to laugh and smile at life.  It is a way to teach your kids to not be a bitter person in life.

I hope this series will be a big hit for everyone.  Like always if you see something that I posted wrong or if I leave something out then please feel free to leave a comment or email me the information.  I want this to be something new or veteran dads can use as well as all of the Moms out there.
