This is number 16 of 25 posts in this series.  I hope you are learning new things with this series.  Feel free to check out the rest of them by clicking here.  The following advice will only work if you put the time and effort into making them work.  I hope you are getting positive results by doing what I have listed already.

If this are things that you are already doing then just consider this as a refresher course as being a Dad.  But please still read the article because you might learn something new or even can add more in the comment section if you have a better way to explain it.

Moms can do these as well as Dads so don’t be afraid to try Moms.

Advice “Act as if you’re the best dad ever”

This should be something you practice all of the time.  Being the best Dad is the hardest job you will ever have.  I have seen the results of Dads that don’t do this as well as Dads that only do this half of the time.  The results are mostly what you don’t want your kids to turn out to be.  Being the best Dad will give your kids respect, love, honor, and a place where they want to be.

Advice “Imagine you’ve only got one week left to live. How would you treat your kids? What’s stopping you from doing that right now?”

You need to treat your kids like it’s your last week of your life every week.  This is a way to make sure you live life to the fullest.  Find out what is not allowing you to do this and change it so that you can start living life this way today.  This can go with the previous advice as well.  Just another way to be the best dad ever.

Advice “Let your kids see you cry”

This will show your kids that you are human and you have feelings too.  This will also help your kids learn compassion as well.  It also shows that you have feelings.

Advice “Explore every park in your town”

You can turn this into an adventure as well with your kids.  There are several health benefits for doing this including walking, playing, and staying off of electronics.  If you live in a small town then you can turn this into a weekend activity or if you live in a bigger city then you can turn this into a summer or multiple weekend activity.  This is a way to get fresh air and have fun with your kids.  Pack a lunch and have a picnic while you are doing this.

You might learn more about your community and your town by doing this.  You might even find an activity or a celebration going on there that you can partake in as well.  Even explore parks in other towns if you like as well.  We traveled to a different town to do this and found out the town was celebrating their town’s birthday with a parade.  Things like this will be remembered by your kids for a long time.

I hope this series will be a big hit for everyone.  Like always if you see something that I posted wrong or if I leave something out then please feel free to leave a comment or email me the information.  I want this to be something new or veteran dads can use as well as all of the Moms out there.

Advice “Smile at your children and your partner”

This shows that you care and if they are having a bad day then it will help cheer them up.  This will also open the door for them to talk to you and make you easier to approach.  Smiling will always a good thing to do.

Advice “Make amends when you’re wrong or grumpy or harsh with your kids”

This is a very important piece of advice.  This will show them that you really care for them as well as that you are human and you too make mistakes.  Being harsh towards your kids will make their hearts hard and that is not a good thing at all.  It also makes them be harsh towards others as well.  Remember they learn from you.

Advice “Periodically assess your life and change course if needed. Don’t be unhappy just because you think you can’t change”

You are in control of your own life even with kids and a spouse.  You might need feedback from them but if you are unhappy than change your course to make it happier for you.  Being unhappy can lead to health issues later in life.  You always need to put your kids and spouses happiness first but you also need to be happy as well.

Advice “Take a class or learn a new skill with your kids”

This is a good way to bond with your kids and learn something new as well.  It also shows your kids that it is never too old to learn new skills.  This could be as simple as a swimming class with your kids or as advance as learning to code with them.  It could be used as one on one time with them away from every else.

I hope this series will be a big hit for everyone.  Like always if you see something that I posted wrong or if I leave something out then please feel free to leave a comment or email me the information.  I want this to be something new or veteran dads can use as well as all of the Moms out there.

Advice “Show your wife respect always. Make sure your kids do also”

This is a fine way to teach your kids (boys or girls) how a husband should treat their wives.  Your boys will learn from watching you and your girls will see how their future husband should treat them.  Your kids should always show respect to your wife as well as respect to you.  This is even in the bible as well as the Ten Commandments. Sometimes this can be a difficult process but always be patient.

Advice “Take the time to really explain things to your children. Don’t just say “because I said so”

Sometimes just saying “because I said so” can be very frustrating to your kids.  Think about how you will feel if you were told this answer today.  So sometimes if you explain why your answer is what it is then they will understand and remember why the answer is that way.  Example if you have and headache and you tell them to stop yelling.  By explaining why they should be quiet will make them more often to listen to you as well as being quiet.

Advice “Ask for help if you need it. Don’t suffer from excess pride”

Not asking for help and having your kid’s watch you struggle can cause negative results.  It will cause your kids not to ask for help as well as getting frustrated enough that they don’t want to do it.  Asking for help teaches them it is OK to ask for help on something that they need help with.  I show this a lot with my kids by helping them build Lego’s or even doing homework.  This is a perfect life lesson for your kids.

Advice “Accept who you are, but don’t settle. Strive to improve yourself every day”

Teach your kids to accept you they are and help them strive to improve themselves by having them watch you do it.  If you want to be in healthier body shape then show your kids that you accept your shape and improve on it by working out.  Doesn’t mean you have to go to a gym but workout like walking or doing activities at home.  This can go towards a lot of things like reading and writing.  I’m not a fast reader or  can type fast on a  keyboard.  I have shown my kids that this is ok and I accept it, but I have been improving myself in these areas by reading more to my kids and writing on my blogs.

I hope this series will be a big hit for everyone.  Like always if you see something that I posted wrong or if I leave something out then please feel free to leave a comment or email me the information.  I want this to be something new or veteran dads can use as well as all of the Moms out there.

Somehow this didn’t post on Monday so I apologize for this being late this week.

This is number 13 of 25 posts in this series.

Advice “Speak as one with your wife, so your kids don’t play you off on one another”

This is a very important advice.  Your kids will play you against your spouse if they get two different answers to their question.  This is normal and part of being human to get your way.  You need to show a strong front with your spouse and stick with their answer.  If you have a problem with it then take your spouse away from the kids and discuss it with them.  Always remember “United We Stand, Divided We Fall”.

Advice “Do you say yes all the time? Use no when you mean it, even if they don’t like it”

Don’t let your kid’s bully their way to the answer they want.  Only say yes fi you really mean it and say no as well.  They need to learn boundaries and rules in your home.  They might not like it and through a tantrum, but they will respect you in the long run.  This is were being patience is a key.

Advice “Do you say no all the time? Say yes once in a while”

Similar to the previous answer.  If you say no all of the time then you risk your kids losing confidence in you letting them do things and when they get older they will become a rebel to your rules.  Let them win once in a while and see how much that will go towards the positive like their attitude towards you and respect towards you.  They will start thinking something is wrong if you always tell them no and start telling them yes.

Advice “Snuggle with your kids”

This is a good way to make you happy as well as your kids.  They tend to open up to me about their day if they are having a bad day that day.  It makes them safe and re-enforces that in their minds.  Remember how you felt when your parents snuggled with you and if you didn’t have this as a kid then give it a try to see how it feels from a parent side.

I hope this series will be a big hit for everyone.  Like always if you see something that I posted wrong or if I leave something out then please feel free to leave a comment or email me the information.  I want this to be something new or veteran dads can use as well as all of the Moms out there.
