One of my favorite things to do is reading.  You can learn a lot of new or good stuff while you are reading.  It allows you to work and train your brain.  Reading is a lot healthier and better than watching the television.

One of my favorite past times is reading to my kids at bedtime.  I have done this with my oldest and he now loves reading his books as well as reading right before he goes to bed.

My youngest son like this because he gets to learn new words as well as practice reading the words.  This helps his reading at school.  Since the beginning of the school year until now, he reading has improved greatly.

My two daughters love the one on one time when I read each of them a book and they can pick their own books out.  If you have read my post Opposites then you will understand why this is important to them.  They also love the stories and learning the words.

As a father, this is one of the best times of my life.  I don’t read to my oldest son anymore and I do miss that.  But I have three more kids to read to and that time is almost over.  I will miss reading to them.

When was the last time you read to your child?  When was the last time you remember being read to?  Feel free to leave your answer in the comments and I will respond to the questions you have.

To Quit or Not to Quit (2015 – A to Z Challenge)

It is the question we ask ourselves once a week, once a day, or even multiple times a day.  Should I quit or should I still do this.  With kids this can be a big deal and can have a lifetime impression on them.

If you try your hardest and give everything before you quit something then your kids will do the same.  If you refuse to give up then your kids will follow in your steps.

But if you give up early and easy then your kids will learn it is ok to do this as well.  This includes doing school work or helping out some of their friends.  Another thing to think about is if their friends do this.  They could feel peer pressure from them to quit early.

You will need to teach them if everyone else gives up doesn’t mean they should follow them.  I’m not saying every kid that quits something is a bad thing.  It depends on that they are doing and if it is a good idea in the first place.

Just teach your kids to give it their all and do their best on stuff that is good for them and the community.  Helping someone do yard work that is hard can have its reward as well?  They will feel good for doing it and they will be looked at as a hard worker to everyone around them.

To me it is also a good thing to teach them if something goes wrong with their health as well.  To never give up that it will be fixed or they can overcome the disability it might cause.

Have you remembered a time when you quit something and now regret it?  What was your best way to teach this to your kids or the best way you learned this life lesson?  Feel free to leave your answer in the comments and I will respond to the questions you have.

Opposites (2015 – A to Z Challenge)

My twin girls are very much opposite from each other.  This makes them their own unique individual.  This can be a blessing since they like different stuff and this can be a very big pain as well.

They like wearing different clothes and they have different hobbies.  The youngest likes to dress up in princess clothes and color pictures as well as singing.  The oldest twin of the two twins likes to play video games and dress in shorts and a shirt.  She also likes to sing but not all of the time.

They like different foods and different stories.  The oldest twin is now wearing glasses as the younger one isn’t.  They even have different shades of blonde hair as well.

So being opposites do have their benefits but they also do a lot of stuff together.  The like getting into trouble together.  The sometimes get my youngest son into trouble as well by telling him to do things.

Do you remember being opposite with your siblings?  Are you a twin and remember trying to be opposite from each other?  Do you have children that act like this?  Feel free to leave your answer in the comments and I will respond to the questions you have.

New Stuff (2015 – A to Z Challenge)

As a parent you hear your kids asking about getting new stuff or trying to be the first to get it before anyone else did.  I hear this almost daily from one of my four kids.  They try to negotiate from making a deal for it to throwing a tantrum over it.

I have tried to teach them getting a brand new toy or video game is not always the best thing to do.  My oldest is now into going to Game Stop and get a slightly used video game then paying full price for a brand new one.  It saves him money and it is a way he can be frugal.

The three younger kids are having a hard time with this since they are really too young to fully understand this.  Don’t get me wrong, I do buy brand new stuff for my kids just not on a daily or weekly basis.  We are just frugal on what we spend our money on.

We save it for vacations and other major purchases that our family enjoy.  Last year we saved enough money to go to Disney World in Florida for the first time as a family.  It created memories that we will have for the rest of our lives.

If you don’t teach your kids about spending correctly then they grow up to just spend money and get into financial trouble.  That is what I’m trying to avoid for them.

What was the last time your child wanted something brand new and what did you do?  What kind of spending habits did you learn from your parents?  Feel free to leave your answer in the comments and I will respond to the questions you have.
