This article was written in 1/17/2012 on my other blog http://www.fatherof4.com.
I was out reading some of my favorite blogs when I came across a quote on Mark Merrill’s blog at http://www.markmerrill.com/. It was a quote from Tony Dungy that Mark mentioned on his blog about parenting and being a father.
Most things I read out on the internet don’t stick with me for long but this did and it will remind me to be the best father that I can be. I believe in good parenting. Tony and Mark are showing father’s the right path to become a courageous father and to be the best dad you can be. Thanks Mark Merrill and Tony Dungy for all you do on this front.
A quote from Tony Dungy
“Courage is the ability to do the right thing, all the time, no matter how painful or uncomfortable it might be. It takes courage to discipline at the right time and in the right way. It takes courage to say ‘no’. It takes courage to go against the grain and say, ‘You know what, I know everybody else allows their kids to watch these television programs, or dress like that, but I’m not going to allow it.’ It takes courage to stand up for your convictions.”

Pingback: Why I Wrote “Be a Courageous Dad” | Life of a Busy Dad
I’m with you, man. We have to find our own way through this crazy trip known as being a father, but if you’re there, and an active part of these little ones’ lives, then you’re doing better than most out there. Well done. I have three under fives myself, all boys, by the way.
Very true and Thank You. Fatherhood sometimes can be easy and others times can be very difficult depending on the situation. Being active in their lives is the first big step of being a father. Being a father is much, much more than having children. I have two boys and twin girls that keep me active.
Great post! What made you write this?
Children today are getting away with too much and getting into trouble more often. Majority of people that are in prison didn’t have a father or had a father that didn’t really do anything in the family so they got there fathering from someone else.
Having a strong father presence in a family allows kids to be raised and taught values, ethics, and just how to be a father. The bible has taught me as well as a couple other blogs on how to start being a Courageous Dad.
It really didn’t sink into me until a watch a movie called “Courageous” that got me thinking on how I was as a dad. I recommend seeing that movie if you are a father. It’s a Christian movie so it has references to the bible. Even without the references, it still gets you thinking.
