I have decided to create a new Monday Blog Series called  “How you can be a better Dad” and to start this series off I decided to re-post a top 10 list from another site I read  called All Pro Dad.  This site was created by Mark Merrill with the help of legendary NFL coach Tony Dungy.

Here is the link to the list on their site.

Our Classic 10 Ways to be an All Pro Dad | All Pro Dad.

I hope this series will be a big hit for everyone.  Like always if you see something that I posted wrong or if I leave something out then please feel free to leave a comment or email me the information.  I want this to be something new or veteran dads can use as well as all of the Moms out there.

If you like what I’m writing then please feel free to vote for my site by clicking on the “like my Blog?” banner below.

Why I Wrote “Be a Courageous Dad”

I wrote a post a few months ago called “Be a Courageous Dad” and I got the following question in my comments section from nickvanval.

“Great post! What made you write this?”

At that time I gave the following response.

“Children today are getting away with too much and getting into trouble more often. Majority of people that are in prison didn’t have a father or had a father that didn’t really do anything in the family so they got there fathering from someone else.

Having a strong father presence in a family allows kids to be raised and taught values, ethics, and just how to be a father. The bible has taught me as well as a couple other blogs on how to start being a Courageous Dad.”

I want to go a little bit deeper on my response and decided to turn it into a post on my blog. I do believe that kids do get away with too much than when we were kids. It seems we are hearing how kids bully kids and also how they are committing more crime on the television and in the papers more frequently than in the past. This is a trend that is growing more as the economy is still in the toilet. The question is why this is happening.

I read several sources report that they did a survey in prisons to see why inmates commit crimes and got some results that was shocking to me. Majority of the inmates didn’t have a father figure or a father in their lives growing up. This was because they are in a single parent family or their fathers were always way from the house due to work or other issues. Without a father figure in the family, the kids turn to other people to be that father figure and majority of these people don’t have the kid’s best interest in mind.

Having a strong father presence in a family allows kids to be raised and taught values, ethics, and just how to be a leader and father in their families. This is a big problem that some people or groups of people are trying to fix by teaching fathers to be good fathers to their children. Mark Merrill President of Family First, AllProDad with Tony Dungy, fatherhood.org, and Fathers.com are just a small list of people or groups that can help men become great leaders in their families.

I highly recommend reading a book called “All Pro Dad: Seven Essentials to be a Hero to Your Kids” by Mark Merrill to start with. Why this book? Because I’m currently reading this book and getting a lot of good and helpful information from it. I really enjoy reading this book and I’ll let you know more after I finished it.

This article was written in 1/17/2012 on my other blog http://www.fatherof4.com.

I was out reading some of my favorite blogs when I came across a quote on Mark Merrill’s blog at http://www.markmerrill.com/.  It was a quote from Tony Dungy that Mark mentioned on his blog about parenting and being a father.

Most things I read out on the internet don’t stick with me for long but this did and it will remind me to be the best father that I can be.  I believe in good parenting.  Tony and Mark are showing father’s the right path to become a courageous father and to be the best dad you can be.  Thanks Mark Merrill and Tony Dungy for all you do on this front.

A quote from Tony Dungy

“Courage is the ability to do the right thing, all the time, no matter how painful or uncomfortable it might be.  It takes courage to discipline at the right time and in the right way.  It takes courage to say ‘no’.  It takes courage to go against the grain and say, ‘You know what, I know everybody else allows their kids to watch these television programs, or dress like that, but I’m not going to allow it.’  It takes courage to stand up for your convictions.”

You can read Mark’s blog post at http://www.markmerrill.com/2012/01/16/how-to-be-a-courageous-dad-2/ .
