The Adventures They Go On (2015 – A to Z Challenge)

The adventures they go on are always a treat to see.  They could be pirates fighting with swords, or ballerinas dancing on a stage, or recreating the scenes of Bolt.  This is what my three younger kids do on a daily basis besides playing the normal game of tag in the house.

Sometimes I reenact with them and sometimes I just watch since their adventures are more interesting then what is on the television or what I’m reading at the time.  It shows how much imagination they have and how much fun they can produce to battle the boredom in the house.

My kids are not allowed to watch a lot of TV during the week since during the school year.  They are not allowed to use any electronics (Game systems, tablets, etc…) during the week either.

So they make up their own fun instead.  Their generation is starting to depend on too much technology and not enough social face to face time with others.  They seem to be the happiest when they are doing their adventures instead of being on a device.

I see teenagers and other smaller kids playing video games, or on their tablets, or on their cell phones and not paying attention to anything around them.  I also watched two kids texting each other and they were less than five feet from each other.  I’m not condemning the use of any electronic devices by kids but to have limits on them.

By doing this with my oldest son, he is 2 grades higher in Math and Science then what grade he is in.   He also loves to read and play his musical instruments.  He also loves playing on his tablet and play video games as well.  But his love of reading and his grades in Math and Science would not be there if we allow unlimited access to the tablet and video game consoles we have.

How do you limit or do you even limit the amount of electronic devices your kids play with?  What are your thoughts about this?  Feel free to leave your answer in the comments and I will respond to the questions you have.

Starting today, I will be releasing topics (features) two to three times a week. I will release them on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays on every week. Each day will have a different topic until I run out of topics or ideas. Here is the breakdown of each topic on which day that I will release it on.

Mondays – Becoming a better Father.

This feature will give you some type of advice and a call to action to improve yourself as a father or it could be as easy as a refresher for you too. I believe in being a good father. I’m not any better than anyone else since I’m human and even I’m still learning to be a good father. If you have a better way of doing something I mentioned in these articles, please feel free to send me an email and I’ll post it or even have a discussion about it with you.

Wednesdays – Favorite verses in the Bible.

In this feature, I will be listing out my favorite verses from the bible and what the meaning that I get from it. This doesn’t mean that my meaning is better than yours. It is just how I see it. If you have a different approach to what the meaning is to you, please feel free to share it. You might give me a better look into it or not. It never hurts to try. My meanings will also be around fatherhood as well.

Fridays – Free-For-All Fridays

This feature is wide open to anything dealing with fatherhood. This could be something that is mentioned to me via email, Facebook, or Twitter. This also could be a response to anything on T.V., radio, on the Internet, or anything I heard by word of mouth. If there isn’t anything to talk about then this will be skipped for the week. This is where some of the article lengths could get pretty long.

This will also be a question answering session as well from all of the questions from the previous week. If the get a lot of questions, then it will be the top questions I have receive that could benefit everyone if I answer in a post. I will try to respond to email with some type of answer if a question exists.

If someone shares a better idea then what I have shared, then I’ll write it up and share my thoughts on it and it could even change my thought process on how I view it.

Proverb 15:1 is one of my favorite verses in the bible. I try to think and remember this verse every time I get angry and mad at something. Being a father of four young kids, this is almost a daily occurrence. Reacting to something while you are mad almost always end up putting you into a worst position then if you calmly approach the issue.

The main thing this verse teaches you is to approach the situation with a calm attitude and the results will end up being better than if you approach it with anger. Next time when something makes you angry, approach it with a calm cool head and see what happens.

Here are three different bible translations of Proverb 15:1.

Proverbs 15:1

New International Version (NIV)

1 A gentle answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Proverbs 15:1

New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

1A soft answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Proverbs 15:1

English Standard Version (ESV)

1 A soft answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.
