Pawns from a game from www.wikipedia.org

Today is kind of an extension from yesterday’s post “Having a Fun Day With the Kids”.  Some of the fun days we have are playing all kinds of different games from card games to board games.

My younger kids like playing matching games and a couple different board games we have including some Disney game with have.  I can’t remember the name of it right now.  They also have “Hungry, Hungry Hippos” as well as “Connect Four” and “Go Fish”.  Both games I remember playing when I was a kid.  At least “Connect Four” I do remember.

My older son likes to play the same games as the younger ones as well as others.  His favorites are “Battleship” and “Monopoly: Tournament Edition”.  He is quiet good at both games or I’m getting worst at playing them (Insert your old age joke here).  At least he has his name on the trophy from the Monopoly game for the last 5 or 6 games we played.  He also is willing to learn and try learning card games like “Cribbage”.

But the best things about playing these types of games is the interaction that I have with my kids and having them smile and laugh when they are beating me at the games.  There have been several times that tears have been shed at the end or during games in my house.  But I address them when they come.

Since my kids are getting older and starting to play with the Nintendo DS’s, Tablets, and Laptops We own, we are seeing these types of games getting less frequency then they have been in the past.  This is the hard part of being a parent.

So now it’s your turn.  Do you have some type of game night or any certain games you play with your kids?  Do you have any memories of games or game nights with your kids that stick out to you?  I know I have a few and if I list them all, then this post would be 2,000 to 3,000 or more words and I want to keep the posts short like the rules state.  Leave your comments below.

Combination playground equipment (plastic) from www.wikipedia.org

This weekend my family took time to have some fun during the nice weather we are having. We decide to have a Fun Day on Saturday and it flowed into Sunday for my oldest son (T).

It started out on Saturday when the kids went out to our backyard and played on the playground equipment. We have a slide and swing combo that sits out back of my house. They played on that for a while then we went to a normal park before we decided to go out shopping for supplies for the next week as well as letting my oldest spend some of his birthday money e received.

That made a long night since we didn’t get back home until late that night. Then on Sunday the three little ones played in the backyard again as my wife took my oldest to the movies to go see the new Captain America movie. They both liked it, but says that the movie was long. This was also after going to an Easter Egg Hunt and after going to church.

So the fun day became a Fun weekend and this will give you a glimpse of why I named my blog as the “Life of a Busy Dad”.

What does Eating Out and the Word “EWWWWW!” Have in Common? (A to Z Challenge)

Tom's Restaurant, NYC. from www.wikipedia.org

They are words I hear multiple times a day everyday from my kids.  If I had a dollar for every time they say them I would be rich.  OK maybe not rich, but I’m not joking on how many times I hear them.

My boys are in the phase of eating my wife and I out of a house.  They try to find out almost at every meal if we are eating out since they both love pizza from Happy Joe’s or from Pizza.

My girls favorite word is “EWWW!” even if it is not a word correctly used.  They use it if they don’t like food that we give them.  They really used it if they don’t like something they see.  Example is every time they see a couple kissing on television, they will say “EWWW!”.  It is sometimes down right funny when they use it.

My kids will start using different words and phrases as they get older and I will always have this to remind them of which words and phrases they used.

I am also sorry for having this post out late, but my weekends are the busiest time of the week.

A Date Day or Night in Your Parenting Routine? (A to Z Challenge)

Yes, you read the title of this post correctly. Every married couple with kids or even without kids should have a Date Night or in my case a Date Day. There are several reasons you need should have one, but I’ll explain why my wife and I have one.

My wife and I have a date day once a month. Why once a month, because it fits our busy schedule that we have. I know a couple that have one every other week. I also heard of couple having one once a week as well. It is not how often you have one, its having one period.

You need to have one to spend quality time with each other and remember why you are spending your life with them. I know kids are part of the family, but you do need time away from them. In my opinion, this is true if you have multiple kids in your family.

I my case we have a date day. It is just easier for us to take time off from work and send the kids to school or to the sitters for us. This way we have a day to enjoy having each other’s company as well as go out for lunch and sometimes do some shopping without having to worry about what the kids are going to do. We even sometimes go out to a movie as well.

Another positive thing about having a date day or night is that you can re-energize yourself emotionally. At least that is what if fells like for me.

So now it is your turn. Do you take date nights or days in your relationships? What type of thing s do you do? (Yes I know that was a loaded question, but please remember this is a kind of kids friendly site with humor.) Leave your comments below.
