My kids are always learning everyday like most other kids out there.  They also like reading stories and books about any topic that they can learn.  They also love going to the local library to play on the learning computers as well as getting to check out different books.K

My kids love learning for the knowledge.  They are wanting to learn as much as they can and then show my wife and I what they learned.

My youngest daughter loves dancing so she shows us new moves she learned.  My oldest daughter wants to and tries to be an artist by drawing the best pictures she can as well as coloring in the lines in her coloring books.

My youngest boy likes to show me what he learned with Minecraft and Lego’s.  If you don’t know about Minecraft then ask you kid or kids about it and they will be happy to explain it to you.  My oldest is the teenager that always likes sharing what he learned in a book or at school as well as showing how he is getting better at basketball.  Since wrestling is over for the year.

I love when they ask me to share my knowledge with them and watching their faces as they learn from what I teach them.  This could be a simple task or me telling them stories at bedtime.

Knowledge is a powerful thing to teach your kids.  The more they know the more knowledge they will have going out into this world we live in.

Please feel free to leave comments below on your experience with kids then you share your knowledge with them or when they show their knowledge of stuff to you.

Excellence – The A to Z Challenge 2016

I like bragging about my kids.  I not any different than any other parent out there.  It makes me even more prouder than normal when my kids bring home a piece of paper Ethat tells them and us that they excel at something or an excellence award.

This is a major confidence booster for any kids in school.  This is telling them they are doing a good job at what they are learning and doing.  This works for adults at their jobs as well.  If employers spend a few minutes a month to let their employees get recognized for excellence then the workplace would be a lot better place to work.  Some places already do this, but there still are a lot of places that don’t.

This comes from four kids that love going to school everyday.  My oldest daughter got upset a few weeks ago when she couldn’t go to school because the school district had spring break that week.  That tells you how much they love school and being with their friends.

My oldest is always getting excellence awards in middle school for the subjects of Math and Reading.  They are his two favorite subjects.  I was very good at Math and my wife was very good at reading.

I dis-like reading when I was in school and I was never reinforced to read for 10 to 20 minutes like our kids are.  If I had this as a kid then I might have enjoyed reading.

What was your experience when you see your kids bringing home and excellence award?  Please leave your comments below.

This article was originally written on 3/21/2011 on my other blog http://www.fatherof4.com.

Have you ever get mad and snap at a kid for doing or saying something wrong to realize later that you could have done your part differently.  This is one of the issues that can make a father or parent a good or bad parent.  Keeping your self-control around your kids will teach them how to be a good parent as well as teaching them how to handle conflicts in their lives.

Teaching kids to control their tempers and actions is the first step to a happy and healthy childhood.  Losing your self-control will only show your kids that it’s ok to lose your temper and yell if there is a conflict in their lives.  This also leads to fights and bad behavior at school as well as in everyday life.

Here are steps that you can use to help with your self-control around your kids.  The first thing is to always put your children first and make them the most important part of your life.  By doing this, you will eliminate getting angry that them for interrupting your favorite show or sports event on T.V.  Because you can always find a way to replay your shows or events, but there is no replay or take backs in a child’s life.

Always listen to what your child is saying without saying anything first.  This will make your child feel like you are really listening to them and they won’t get frustrated telling you about it.  This will also stop any chances of you reacting to your kids by trying to out guess what they are saying.  When a kid gets frustrated, they stop listening to you and will cause you or your child to lose self-control.  You can still ask questions, but use a non-aggressive voice.

Another step is to have time for just your children and yourself.  By spending time with them you are showing them your love for them and that they are important in your life.  This will also help them respect you more.  Spend time by reading to them or have them read to you, playing games outside or by playing a video game with each other, or even play board games with them.

Self-control will help your child to have good behavior, to be respectful, to be patience, and to have a good attitude towards their peers, adults, and elders.  So the best way to look at this is if you want them to show self-control towards you then you should show self-control towards your kids.
