F is for Friendships & Faith

“These are two of my favorite things.”  F

Sorry for the Sound of Music reference there.  If you are too young to know what the Sound of Music is then google it.  It’s an old musical movie.  At least one or both the these words are in your kids discussions when talking to them about other kids around them.

I found out in one evening how much both of these words meant to my youngest daughter.  I started out asking her about her class at school and the kids in her class.  She then started to talk my ear off for the rest of the evening until I had to get her into bed for the night.

She started listing who her friends were and how they are her friend.  She almost listed everyone in her class except for a couple of kids that was picking on her for her foot or hair color.  Which we have addressed in the past with the school and her teachers.

She also start ed going into the bible stories when I asked her “What does faith mean to you?”.  I believe she was just happy to have me listen to her talk.  But I found out how active she is around other kids as well as how her social activities are coming a long.

I’m planning on doing this to the other three kids to see where they are at on these questions and see if there are any issues or problems in their lives away from home.  This might be a good tool to see if your child is pulling away from others or if they are being a loner type of kid.  Which these could develop into other issues as well.

Please feel free to leave comments below on your experience using these words with your kids.

Excellence – The A to Z Challenge 2016

I like bragging about my kids.  I not any different than any other parent out there.  It makes me even more prouder than normal when my kids bring home a piece of paper Ethat tells them and us that they excel at something or an excellence award.

This is a major confidence booster for any kids in school.  This is telling them they are doing a good job at what they are learning and doing.  This works for adults at their jobs as well.  If employers spend a few minutes a month to let their employees get recognized for excellence then the workplace would be a lot better place to work.  Some places already do this, but there still are a lot of places that don’t.

This comes from four kids that love going to school everyday.  My oldest daughter got upset a few weeks ago when she couldn’t go to school because the school district had spring break that week.  That tells you how much they love school and being with their friends.

My oldest is always getting excellence awards in middle school for the subjects of Math and Reading.  They are his two favorite subjects.  I was very good at Math and my wife was very good at reading.

I dis-like reading when I was in school and I was never reinforced to read for 10 to 20 minutes like our kids are.  If I had this as a kid then I might have enjoyed reading.

What was your experience when you see your kids bringing home and excellence award?  Please leave your comments below.

Like my last post mentioned is that my kids are all dare-devil kids.  They will do anything that looks fun and look like an accident waiting to happen.  My youngest daughter proved that at the trampoline park by hitting her head on the trampoline Dwhen she was flipping.

Both of my sons prove this by wrestling at the middle school level ans well as the club level.  Wrestling club level meets are a lot more aggressive and quicker than middle school wrestling.

My oldest daughter proved this by doing gymnastics in the house .  She also get hurt sometimes but then she gets up and start doing it again and not giving up.  Both of my girls are in gymnastics through out Parks Department in our town. They also play on the swing set in the backyard like it is part of their gymnastics.

My youngest boy does this in the backyard as well, but he uses it as an American Ninja Course instead of gymnastics course.  My oldest son likes making a course for his little brother and some of the courses are very interesting.

Please feel free to leave comments below on your kids being dare devils in your life?.

Courage and Curious – The A to Z Challenge 2016

Courage and curious  are the words that I’m using for the letter C.  This describes my kids daily activities.  They are always curious and wanting to do and try new things. C They tried going to a trampoline park this last weekend and end up having a blast as well.

This is where the Courage comes in as well.  They all built up courage to start doing back flips and forward flips on the trampolines into a pit of foam squares.  My youngest daughter took a couple hits to the back of the head against the trampoline.  But like a trooper, she never gave up and she had the courage to try it again until she got it right.

My oldest son didn’t do much flips on the trampolines.  He liked trying to dunk the basketball off of a trampoline.  In general, the 90 minutes we spent at the park for our time slot was full of curiosity and courage.

The next day was full of sore muscles and legs from jumping so much.  Now I’m curious on how they will handle going back again to the trampoline park.

Please feel free to leave comments below on your experience at a trampoline park.
